膝関節にある側副靭帯の一つで、内側側に位置し、大腿骨の内側上顆と脛骨の内側顆の間に張っている。
「Rauber-Kopsch解剖学」には以下のような解説が見られる。
「この靱帯には前後の2部が区別され，前部の方が後部より長く，後部は内側半月の後縁までしか達していない．長い方の前部は半膜様筋の主停止部を被い，脛骨顆の下方で脛骨が急に細くなった部分を橋わたししているので，この靱帯の下にある組織をとり去ると，狭いすきまがみとめられる」

「It is a broad, flat, membranous band, situated slightly posterior on the medial side of the knee joint. It is attached proximally to the medial epicondyle of femur immediately below the adductor tubercle; below to the medial condyle of the tibia and medial surface of its body. It resists forces that would push the knee medially, which would otherwise produce valgus deformity.」
